Goodby my dear friend. | In memory of my cat.

“I meant,” said Ipslore bitterly, “what is there in this world that truly makes living worthwhile?”
Death thought about it.
CATS, he said eventually. CATS ARE NICE.”

― Terry Pratchett, Sourcery

Last Monday my cat died. She was one of the truest friends I’ve ever known. She was with me through thick and thin.

I don’t know what else to say. But I shall miss her. so. so. much.

It’s odd sharing a piece of news like that on my blog. Many of you I only know virtually. Yet it’s strangely comforting to share it as well. It’s a sort of declaration that all is not as it was. Yet life continues. And I’m thankful I had her for as long as I did.

I love quotes. And so in absence of my own words, since I can’t seem to find them, here is a collection of quotes.

Quotes that helped put into words my grief and what it feels like to be missing a friend. And just what it’s like to have a cat as a friend.

“It is a curious thing, the death of a loved one. We all know that our time in this world is limited, and that eventually all of us will end up underneath some sheet, never to wake up. And yet it is always a surprise when it happens to someone we know. It is like walking up the stairs to your bedroom in the dark, and thinking there is one more stair than there is. Your foot falls down, through the air, and there is a sickly moment of dark surprise as you try and readjust the way you thought of things.”

Lemony Snicket, Horseradish

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats.Albert Schweitzer

How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard….” A.A.Milne

“A home without a cat — and a well fed, well petted and properly revered cat — may be a home, perhaps, but how can it prove title?”Mark Twain, American author

What greater gift than the love of a cat.Charles Dickens

The only thing a cat worries about is what’s happening right now.Lloyd Alexander

When Rome burned, the emperor’s cats still expected to be fed on time.Seanan McGuire

A cat has absolute emotional honesty: human beings, for one reason or another, may hide their feelings, but a cat does not.Ernest Hemingway

“I hate cats.”

Death’s face became a little stiffer, if that were possible. The blue glow in his eye sockets flickered red for an instant.

“I SEE,” he said. The tone suggested that death was too good for cat haters.”

― Terry Pratchett, Wyrd Sisters
